グローバルヤングアカデミーは 200名の若手科学者の団体で、"Give a voice to young scientists" をミッションに、2010年から活動しています。この度念願の総会・学会の日本開催を迎えるにあたり、多くの皆様と対話ができますよう、準備を進めております。

「社会と科学の関係」について、感性と理性のバランスを見直し、新しい切り口で見てみると、どのような構造的な問題やアンコンシャス (無意識の) バイアスが見つかるのか、またそれを乗り越え、若手科学者としてどのような社会を築いていきたいのか、幅広く議論したいと思っています。

アートや漫画を取り入れた試みなど、新しい取り組みも企画しています。若手科学者や将来科学者を目指す学生、アカデミアに限らず民間企業や NPO、行政など開かれた会議といたします。皆様のご参加をお待ちしています。

The Global Young Academy is an organization of 200 young scientists and has been active since 2010 with the mission of "Give a voice to young scientists". We are now preparing to hold our annual general meeting and conference in Japan, where we hope to have a chance to talk with many of you.

We would like to discuss a wide range of issues, such as what structural problems and unconscious biases can be found when we review the balance between sensibility and reason and look at the "relationship between society and science" from a new perspective, and what kind of society we would like to build as young scientists by overcoming these problems.

We are also planning new approaches, such as attempts to incorporate art and cartoons. The conference will be open to young scientists, students who aim to become scientists in the future, academia, private companies, NPOs, and government. We look forward to your participation.

日本初開催となる GYA 総会を福岡にて開催できて本当に幸せです…となるはずでした。しかし、COVID-19 の影響は避けがたく、結局国際会議パートは基本的にオンライン開催となりました。実のところ、当初は東京開催を企画していたものを COVID-19 の影響で福岡開催に変更し、さらに1年延期しての開催を目論だわけですが、世の中なかなか思い通りにはいかないものです。しかしながら、地方都市で考え、地方都市から世界へと発信する、というのは、コロナ後の世界ではごく自然なことと思われ、また、SDGs 達成に向けては必要不可欠のこととも思われます。学問も脱中央化し、真に「みんなの学問」となるために今回の議論の場を活用し、そのような取り組みの良き先例となるよう全力を尽くしたいと考えています。様々な方に奮ってご参加いただければ幸いです。

We are pleased to hold the first GYA Annual Meeting in Japan in Fukuoka...or so it was supposed to be. However, the impact of COVID-19 was unavoidable, and in the end, the international part of the meeting was basically held online. In fact, we had initially planned to hold the conference in Tokyo, but due to COVID-19, we changed the place to Fukuoka and even postponed it for another year, but things don't always go as planned. However, thinking in local cities and disseminating ideas and statements from local cities to the world seems to be a natural thing in the post-COVID world and also appears to be essential for achieving the SDGs. I would like to do my best to set a good precedent for such efforts by utilizing this opportunity for discussion for academia to become de-centralized and truly achieve "academia for the people." We hope that a wide range of people will join us.

グローバル・ヤング・アカデミー (GYA) のメンバーは、毎年この時期に年次総会を開催し、前年の成果、成功、教訓を振り返り、評価しています。また、将来の活動に向けての出発点でもあります。この時期は、GYA メンバーにとって、卒業生を祝い、別れを惜しみ、新しいメンバーを歓迎するエキサイティングな時期です。

この2年間は、世界的な大流行により、顔を合わせての年次総会ができませんでしたが、GYA の精神に則り、これを機会に年次総会の構成と目標を再検討しました。

2022年の GYA 総会は、再び集まって、日本の自然環境、職業環境、科学環境に刺激を受け、今後の目標を設定する素晴らしい機会となるでしょう。私たちは、日本のチームの努力に事前に感謝し、実りある GYA AGM 2022 の準備を進めていきたいと考えています。

Assembling for our Annual General Meeting, the Global Young Academy (GYA) members use this time every year as a point of reflection and evaluation of the achievements, successes and lessons of the year before. We use is also as a point of departure for our future endeavours. It is an exciting time for every GYA member as we celebrate and bid farewell to our Alumni and also, welcome with open arms the new cohort of members.

The last two years, the global pandemic deprived us from a face-to-face AGM but in true GYA spirit, we used this as an opportunity to reassess at the structure and goals of our AGMs.

The GYA AGM 2022 will be a great occasion to get back together, be inspired by the natural, professional and science environment in Japan, and set up our goals for the years to come. We are grateful in advance for the efforts of the team in Japan and we are excited to prepare for a productive GYA AGM 2022.

グローバルヤングアカデミーの執行委員会は、年次総会と学会の準備を進めています。私たちは、この年次総会を、すべての委員会、ワーキンググループ、そしてすべてのメンバーが、お互いに、そして地域社会とつながるための重要な時間だと考えています。この会議で、私たちは情熱的に議論し、より良い未来を共に夢見て、世界が直面する重要な課題を真剣に考え、大胆な計画を立てるでしょう。私たちは、日本の科学と社会という刺激的な文脈の中で、日本の新旧の共同研究者たちと協力し、彼らから学びながら、このような活動を行うことを楽しみにしています。

The Executive Committee of the Global Young Academy is helping to prepare the AGM and conference. We see this annual gathering as a critical time for all our committees, working groups and every member to connect with each other and to local communities. At this meeting we will passionately discuss and dream of better futures together, we will seriously consider important challenges facing the world and make daring plans. We look forward to doing this in the inspiring context of Japanese science and society, working with and learning from our collaborations, new and old, in Japan.
